After about a month of using my NOOKcolor for everyday tasks, I’ve found that magical ‘happy medium’ setting for my LCD density, and wish to make that change permanent. Here’s how:
In a shell, become superuser and then remount the /system partition for read-write access:
# mount -o remount,rw -t ext2 /dev/mmcblk0p5 /system
Edit /system/build.prop
Now locate the line defining ‘ro.sf.ldc_density=240′, remove the hashmark commenting it out, and change the value to whatever your desired setting is – for me 180 was perfect. Bigger numbers here will give you bigger icons and status bar, but will also cause some of the Barnes & Noble software that uses fixed size buttons to be clipped off.
Save, and reboot and you should no longer need to use your pinky to tap items on the status bar such as the reader, back and menu buttons. Sweet!
